What are the enlisted physical tests since 2026?

Since Order DEF/15/2026 (BOE of 21 January 2026), which repeals Order DEF/1078/2012, the physical tests to join the Spanish Armed Forces as enlisted personnel (Tropa y Marinería: soldiers and sailors) are four, in this order: push-ups in two minutes, isometric plank, agility-speed circuit and a continuous 2,000 m run. They are graded pass or fail with the entry marks:

  • Push-ups: 9 for men and 5 for women, in two minutes at most.
  • Plank: 40 seconds, the same for men and women.
  • Circuit: 15.4 s for men and 17.1 s for women.
  • 2,000 m: 11:54 for men and 12:58 for women.

Push-ups count when the chin touches the 10 cm pad and you return to fully straight arms, with hands under the shoulders, legs together and the body straight from head to heels. You get a single rest, at the top: a second stop ends the test. The plank is on forearms and toes, elbows under the shoulders; the first break in form earns a warning and the second ends it.

The agility-speed circuit is 16 metres from end to end and 2 metres wide, with seven cones alternating every 2 metres. You start seated, facing away from the course with your hands on your knees, and the start call comes from behind. You go out in a slalom outside the seven cones, starting with the nearest, pick up a tennis ball and come back in a straight line flat out; time stops when your chest crosses the line. It is repeated if you knock or move a cone, drop the ball or go wrong, and the time is rounded down to the tenth: 15.47 counts as 15.4.

The 2,000 m is run on a flat, firm, even loop of at least 300 metres. There are two attempts in the push-ups, the plank and the circuit, and one in the run. And something worth knowing: the marks rise during training. At the end of basic military training they ask for 13 push-ups (7 for women), a 44-second plank, 15.2 s in the circuit (16.9) and 11:46 in the 2,000 m (12:42).

How the plan works

Your AI-generated plan

You choose the Armed Forces and enlisted ranks, your sex, the date and your marks. The app tells you whether you pass each test today, how much margin you have and how far you are from the training bar, which the plan also takes into account.

A four-day week has a circuit day, an interval day for the 2,000 m and a strength day, plus a fourth day that goes where you need it most (an easy run, or a second circuit technique day if that is your weak point), with push-ups and the plank spread over several sessions. In the circuit each thing that decides it is trained separately: the seated start turning towards the first cone, the slalom with short steps as you reach each cone and the straight run back flat out; then full reps with the BOE diagram.

Push-ups, from your step: hands on a bench and negatives if you can't reach five yet; sets to the pad at 60% of your max from five; weighted push-ups with a backpack from thirteen; and one set every minute once you pass twenty-six. At the end of each peak week, one max set with a two-minute clock and a single rest, as in the exam. The plank, in sets at 65% of your best mark plus side planks.

Every five weeks, a mock test in the official order (push-ups, plank, circuit and 2,000 m) and, in exam week, the taper.

From today to the exam, week by week

With the exam date, the plan counts backwards: base, development, exam pace and taper. Every five weeks, a deload with a mock test under the official protocol.

Mock test· Exam

  • Base: learn the tests and build the engine. Easy runs and aerobic intervals, the circuit in parts, and bar or push-up progressions from your rung.
  • Development: aerobic power and speed. Long intervals at 3K pace, the full circuit flat out and more reps to the board's standard.
  • Specific: exam pace. Intervals at your target pace, the circuit under exam conditions and bar sets like the board's.
  • Taper. Less volume, same intensity: arrive fresh without losing the edge.
  • Exam week. Short activation, rest the day before and everything ready for test day.

Without an exam date, the plan moves through base, development and exam pace, with a mock test every five weeks, and reshuffles the phases as soon as you set the date.

Who is this plan for?

  • Would-be soldiers and sailors aged 18 to 28 (not yet 29 on joining), with or without marks: the first week brings an initial assessment.

  • Those who prepared for the old tests: Order DEF/15/2026 repealed the 2012 one and brought its own tests and marks. The plan uses the current ones.

  • Those who want to reach training with a margin: the marks rise at the end of basic military training, and the plan shows you from the start how far you are from them.

  • Women: the push-up, circuit and run marks are different and the plan uses yours; the plank is the same for everyone.

Equipment needed

EntrenAI automatically substitutes any exercise if you don’t have the gear.

  • A flat loop of at least 300 metres or a track for the 2,000 m
  • Seven cones and a tennis ball for the circuit, in a 16 by 2 metre lane
  • A 10 cm block or pad for the push-ups (a folded towel or a couple of books work)
  • A mat for the plank
  • A weighted backpack for weighted push-ups, when you reach that step
  • The stopwatch on your phone
Common mistakes

What most people get wrong (and how to avoid it)

  1. 1

    Preparing for the old tests

Order DEF/15/2026 repealed the 2012 one and changed the tests and the marks. There is still a lot of material around with the old ones; the plan uses the current ones.

  2. 2

    Stopping twice in the push-ups

You get a single rest, at the top with your body straight. A second stop ends the test even if there are seconds left. You need to know how many you can do in one go and where to take the rest.

  3. 3

Getting up facing the wrong cone

The start call comes from behind and you have to turn on the side of the first cone. Getting up without knowing which way you turn loses time in the first metre. The plan trains the seated start on its own.

  4. 4

    Braking late at every cone

The slalom is won with short steps as you reach each cone and pushing out of it. Arriving at full speed forces you wide and lengthens the route.

  5. 5

Letting the hips sag in the plank

The first break in form earns a warning and the second ends it. Holding 40 seconds with sagging hips doesn't count; the plan trains the plank in the exam position.

  6. 6

    Settling for the entry pass

At the end of basic military training they ask for more in every test. Getting in with the bare marks means starting training with homework.

Frequently asked questions

Men: 9 push-ups, a 40 s plank, 15.4 s in the circuit and 11:54 in the 2,000 m. Women: 5 push-ups, a 40 s plank, 17.1 s in the circuit and 12:58 in the 2,000 m.

Two in the push-ups, the plank and the circuit, spaced to recover; one in the 2,000 m. The circuit allows one false start per attempt.

Yes. At the end of basic military training they ask for 13 push-ups (7 for women), a 44 s plank, 15.2 s in the circuit (16.9) and 11:46 in the 2,000 m (12:42). The app shows you both marks for every test.
