EntrenAI or Hevy: a generated plan or a workout logbook?
Hevy is the workout logbook many lifters swear by, but it won't tell you what to train tomorrow. EntrenAI builds an adaptive plan for 12 sports and adjusts it to how you recover. Here is an honest look at where each app wins and when it makes sense to use both.
Updated
Hevy, launched in 2020, is a workout logging app for the gym. You log your sets, reps, loads, RPE and rest times, and it keeps a complete history with personal-record charts and progress per exercise. Its interface is widely regarded as the best gym log around, it has a friend feed for sharing workouts and following other lifters, and it includes a full exercise library with animations. What it does not do is decide your training: the routine builder lets you create your own templates, but at the time of writing there is no AI generating or adapting a plan for you.
EntrenAI is an AI training plan generator for iOS and Android. You answer a short questionnaire about your goal, level, available days, equipment and injuries, and it builds a periodized plan for one of 12 sports: hypertrophy, general strength, powerlifting, running, cycling, swimming, triathlon, duathlon, HYROX, hybrid training, speed and power, and public-service entrance tests. A daily check-in on sleep, stress and fatigue feeds a Readiness Score that raises or lowers the load, your RIR and RPE shape the next session's weights, and a missed workout reshuffles the week instead of breaking the block. You log sets, reps and loads inside the app, although the logging itself is simpler than Hevy's.
The choice comes down to the problem you want solved. If you already program your own training and want the best notebook for it, Hevy is hard to beat. If you want the plan designed for you and adjusted when life gets in the way, that is EntrenAI.

Who should pick which app?
EntrenAI is for you if you want a plan built and adjusted for you rather than a blank page: the lifter who keeps repeating the same routine, the beginner who doesn't know what to do on leg day, or the athlete mixing the gym with running, cycling, swimming or HYROX in the same week. If you like being told what to do tomorrow, and having it changed when you sleep badly or skip a session, it fits.
Hevy is for you if you already program your own training and want the best logbook to track it. If you enjoy designing routines, chasing personal records in clean charts and sharing sessions with friends, Hevy alone will keep you happy, and its free tier is generous enough for most lifters.
Use both when you want the plan and the notebook. Let EntrenAI generate the week and adjust it, and log the execution in Hevy if you prefer its interface. Plenty of serious lifters run exactly that combination.
Frequently asked questions
No. Hevy is a logging app: its routine builder lets you create your own templates, such as a six-day push/pull/legs split, but at the time of writing there is no AI writing the plan or adapting it as you train. You decide the exercises, sets and progression yourself. If you want the plan designed for you, that is exactly what EntrenAI does.
Yes, and plenty of lifters do exactly that. EntrenAI generates the plan and adjusts it from your daily check-ins, and Hevy keeps the detailed log if you prefer its interface. Just keep in mind that there is no direct sync between the two, so if you want EntrenAI to adjust your loads from RIR and RPE, log your working sets inside EntrenAI as well. With Hevy's free tier, the combination costs you EntrenAI's €7.99/month and nothing else.
No. Hevy is built entirely around the gym, which is part of why its logging is so good, but it has nothing for running, cycling, swimming or HYROX. If you mix strength with endurance, EntrenAI plans both sides of the week together and imports your runs and rides from Strava, Garmin, Apple Health or Health Connect.
Hevy, if you only need a logbook. At the time of writing, its free tier covers what most lifters need and Pro costs $5.99/month for advanced analytics. EntrenAI is €7.99/month or €23.99/year after a 7-day free trial, with no permanent free plan, but that price includes the plan itself, which Hevy doesn't offer at any tier. Pairing Hevy Free with EntrenAI still comes to €7.99/month in total.
Yes. Hevy lets you log RPE, RIR, percentage of 1RM and per-set notes, and its quick sliders make it one of the smoothest ways to record how hard a set felt. EntrenAI also records RPE and RIR, with a simpler interface, but it puts those numbers to work: they feed the load adjustments for your next session instead of just sitting in your history.
It depends on whether you already know what to do. If you have a routine from a coach or a program you trust and just need somewhere to log it, Hevy is a great digital notebook. If you're walking into the gym without a plan, EntrenAI builds one around your level and equipment and swaps exercises when something hurts or the rack is taken. When in doubt, start with the plan.
Yes, as a pure log it is. Hevy's interface is more polished, its PR charts and per-exercise history are more detailed, and it has a bigger exercise library and a friend feed. EntrenAI's logging is functional and covers sets, reps, loads, RIR and RPE, but it was designed to feed the plan rather than to compete as a standalone notebook. That is why some people generate the plan in EntrenAI and log in Hevy.
