EntrenAI or Strava: a training plan or an activity log?
Strava is the best social activity tracker around, but it won't build you a training plan. EntrenAI generates an adaptive plan for 12 sports and syncs with Strava, so you don't have to pick one. Here is an honest look at what each app does well and where they overlap.
Updated
Strava is the social network for athletes. You record a run, a ride or a swim with your phone or a GPS watch, and Strava turns it into a map, a set of splits and a feed your friends can react to. Segments, leaderboards, routes and clubs are what keep people coming back, and no other app does that part better. What Strava does not do is plan your training: at the time of writing, its Premium tier includes training plans, but they are fixed templates that don't react to how you actually train.
EntrenAI is an AI training plan generator for iOS and Android. You answer a short questionnaire about your goal, level, available days, equipment and injuries, and it builds a periodized plan for one of 12 sports: hypertrophy, general strength, powerlifting, running, cycling, swimming, triathlon, duathlon, HYROX, hybrid training, speed and power, and public-service entrance tests. A daily check-in on sleep, stress and fatigue feeds a Readiness Score that raises or lowers your load, and if you miss a session the week is reshuffled rather than thrown away. It connects to Strava, Garmin, Apple Health and Health Connect, so your recorded activities flow straight into the plan.
The real question isn't "Strava or EntrenAI" but which problem you want to solve. If you want to record, explore and share, Strava is the answer. If you want something to tell you what to do tomorrow and adjust it when life gets in the way, that's EntrenAI. Most people who use both let Strava record and EntrenAI plan.
EntrenAI vs Strava: side-by-side
No marketing fluff, no half-truths. Here’s what each app actually offers.
| Feature | EntrenAI | Strava |
|---|---|---|
| Generates personalized training plans | Yes | No Strava Premium includes training plans, but at the time of writing they are fixed templates that don't adapt to you as an individual. |
| Covers multiple sports | 12 sports: hypertrophy, strength, powerlifting, running, cycling, swimming, triathlon, duathlon, HYROX, hybrid, speed and power, and public-service entrance tests | Tracks 30+ activity types, but with no sport-specific plans |
| Adapts the plan to your feedback | Daily Readiness Score from sleep, stress and fatigue, RPE/RIR load adjustments and a reshuffled week when you miss a session | No |
| GPS activity recording | No GPS recording of its own; imports activities from Strava, Garmin, Apple Health and Health Connect | The best in the market: maps, splits, segments and detailed recording |
| Social network and segments | Challenges and leagues with friends, shared plans and a public profile, but not an activity feed | Excellent: KOMs, routes, kudos, comments and clubs |
| Post-workout analysis | Weekly volume, personal records, progress per exercise and race-time predictions | Pace, heart rate and elevation, segment results and fitness/freshness analysis |
| Price | €7.99/month or €23.99/year, with a 7-day free trial | Free tier with limits, or Premium at €11.99/month at the time of writing |
| Works without a smartphone | No, you need the iOS or Android app to follow and log the plan | Needs the app or a synced GPS watch |
| Human coach included | No | No Neither app puts a human coach in the loop: in EntrenAI the AI makes the decisions, and Strava is a tracker rather than a coaching service. |

Who should pick which app?
EntrenAI is for you if you want a structured plan without building it yourself: the runner who keeps improvising, the lifter stuck on the same routine, the triathlete or HYROX athlete juggling several disciplines in one week. If you like being told what to do tomorrow, and having that adjusted when you sleep badly or skip a day, it fits.
Strava is for you if you love recording and sharing what you do. If your motivation comes from routes, segments, kudos and seeing your friends' rides, and you're happy deciding your own training, Strava on its own is enough. Its activity analysis and community are things EntrenAI doesn't try to replicate.
Use both when you want the plan and the feed. Record with Strava or your watch as usual, let the activity sync into EntrenAI, and the next session adjusts on its own. Plenty of people run Strava Free alongside EntrenAI and never feel they are paying twice for the same thing.
Frequently asked questions
Yes, and that's the setup we'd recommend. Keep recording with Strava or your GPS watch as you do now, connect your Strava account inside EntrenAI, and each activity is imported automatically. EntrenAI then uses it to adjust the plan and shape your next session, so neither app gets in the other's way.
No. At the time of writing, the training plans in Strava Premium are fixed templates, such as a 12-week marathon plan, that don't react to your level, fatigue, injuries or missed sessions. Think of them as a well-designed calendar rather than a coach. EntrenAI builds a different plan for every user and adjusts it day by day from your check-ins and logged sessions.
It depends on what you want from your training. If you're happy deciding your own sessions and mainly want to record, analyze and share, Strava Premium is enough. If you want a plan that changes with you, that's what EntrenAI adds and Strava doesn't. Some people pair Strava Free with EntrenAI at €7.99/month, which at the time of writing costs less than Strava Premium on its own (€11.99/month) and gives them the plan they were missing.
No. EntrenAI isn't an activity tracker, so it doesn't record GPS tracks or suggest routes. If you need maps, route planning, segments or a social feed, Strava does all of that far better. EntrenAI's job is the planning layer on top, which is exactly what Strava's fixed templates don't give you.
No. Segments are Strava's signature feature and they are brilliant for outdoor running and cycling. What EntrenAI offers on the competitive side is challenges and leagues with friends inside the app, which is a different kind of motivation. If chasing a KOM is what gets you out the door, keep Strava and let EntrenAI plan the sessions that get you there.
Only up to a point. Strava records a strength or HYROX session as a generic workout with a duration and heart rate, without sets, reps, loads, RPE or RIR. EntrenAI tracks all of that inside the app and uses it for load adjustments, weekly volume and personal records. If you lift or train for HYROX, EntrenAI is the one that actually understands what you did.
Think about what "serious" means to you. If it means competing outdoors on the bike or on foot with detailed data and a community, Strava Premium is the natural home. If it means changing your physique or performance with a plan that evolves week to week, EntrenAI is built for that. For most amateur athletes the two complement each other rather than compete.
