Which app works for training gym and running together?

You want one that treats strength and running as a single plan and not as two apps that do not talk to each other: it separates heavy sessions from quality sessions and alternates blocks. EntrenAI has a hybrid plan with three variants (strength-cardio, HYROX-style and run-strength) that does exactly that; it is paid, with a 7-day trial.

The problem with combining strength and running

Training strength and endurance at the same time is possible, but it has a cost: they interfere. Interference is greater when the cardio is running (more than cycling), when sessions are long and when both are done on the same day with no gap. That is why a hybrid plan is not «a gym plan and a running plan stuck together».

What the app has to do

  1. Order the week so the leg session does not land right before the quality session or the long run.
  2. Alternate load weeks of strength and of cardio, rather than pushing both to the max.
  3. Accept that total volume is lower than in a specialized plan: the goal is to have both capacities.
  4. Adapt when you sleep badly or miss a day.

How EntrenAI does it

The hybrid plan has three variants depending on what you want:

  • Strength-Cardio: half strength or hypertrophy, half cardio. For overall fitness and health, without a competitive goal.
  • HYROX-style: focus on HYROX with its own strength block.
  • Run-Strength: focus on running (5K to marathon) without losing strength, with one or two short strength sessions during load blocks.

All three follow the same interference-management logic, and each morning's check-in adjusts the load to your sleep and fatigue. The full methodology is published in how the plan is calculated.

When NOT to pick EntrenAI

  • If you only want a log to write down your sets without anyone deciding for you: Hevy does that very well.
  • If you want a maximally specialized running or hypertrophy plan: a pure plan performs somewhat better in its own sport.
  • If you want a personal trainer who corrects you.

When to pick it

If your goal is to be strong and have an engine at the same time (HYROX, physical tests, overall fitness, a runner who does not want to lose muscle), a single plan that manages interference is usually more practical than keeping two.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on your running volume and how much you lift. The Run-Strength variant keeps strength at a minimum of one or two short sessions during running load blocks.

The plan does not stack them: it separates heavy leg sessions from the long run and from running quality, and it does not schedule deadlifts before a long run.

Yes. EntrenAI reads Strava activities and can publish your workouts to Strava; if you prefer to log sets in another app, the plan still works as a guide.
