Runna alternatives: what to choose by what you train
If you only run, Runna is built for that and it is hard for an alternative to beat it at running. Alternatives make sense in three cases: if you also lift, ride or train for HYROX (EntrenAI), if you want an adaptive endurance plan with more track record (Athletica), or if you prefer an AI on top of your watch data (IntervalCoach, Humango).

First, what do you need from a running app?
Before comparing names, decide which problem you have:
- A race plan with paces (5K, 10K, half, marathon) and nothing else.
- A plan that lives with other sports, because you also lift, ride or train for HYROX.
- A plan that adapts to you when you sleep badly or miss a day.
- A person who writes to you and corrects you.
The alternatives, one by one
Athletica. An adaptive endurance training platform (triathlon, duathlon, running, cycling, rowing and HYROX). It is more specialized in endurance and has been on the market longer. It is the closest to EntrenAI in approach; the difference is the range of sports and the price. Comparison.
IntervalCoach. Puts an AI on top of your Intervals.icu data. It fits if you already live on that platform and have a watch with good data. Comparison.
Humango. An AI coach that leans on your watch data. Comparison.
A human coach (Caliber, Future or another). Brings judgment, technique correction and someone to answer to, at a much higher price. Comparison with Caliber.
EntrenAI. A running plan with paces calculated from your VDOT (Daniels) and an 80/20 polarized distribution, and the same app for strength, cycling, swimming, triathlon, HYROX or exam tests. Every morning, a check-in on sleep, stress and fatigue raises or lowers the day's load. How the plan is calculated.
When NOT to pick EntrenAI
- If you only run and want the app with the most track record and community in running: Runna.
- If you need an app of its own for your watch: EntrenAI does not have one.
- If you want someone to answer and correct you: a coach.
- EntrenAI launched in May 2026: it is younger and has fewer users than the established apps.
When to pick it
If you run and also do gym, cycling or HYROX, or you do not want to pay for one app per sport, the advantage of EntrenAI is that a single plan lays out the week so a leg session does not wreck your long run.
Frequently asked questions
We do not know of an equivalent adaptive running plan that is free forever. In EntrenAI what is free is workout logging (tracking and community); the running plan is paid, with a 7-day trial and no card.
Prices change and vary by country, so check each site. EntrenAI costs €7.99/month or €23.99/year; the comparison with Runna records the price Runna publishes and the date it was checked.
EntrenAI has no watch app of its own: it reads your activities from Strava, Apple Health and Health Connect, which is how watches that sync with them arrive.
