Garmin Coach alternative: training plans without a Garmin watch

Garmin Coach offers free adaptive running plans (5K, 10K and half marathon) and cycling plans, but you need compatible Garmin devices. If you have one and want those distances, a free plan is hard to beat. If you have no Garmin, want a marathon or other sports, or prefer using only your phone, EntrenAI is an alternative, although its plan is paid.

What Garmin Coach is

According to Garmin (official blog, checked on October 19, 2026), Garmin Coach offers free adaptive running plans for 5K, 10K and half marathon, with three coaches to choose from (Jeff Galloway, Greg McMillan and Amy Parkerson-Mitchell). Workouts can be sent to the watch and the plan adjusts as you progress. Garmin also has a goal-based cycling plan (a race, a long ride or a VO2 max target) that takes into account your training status, load, VO2 max, recovery time and recent workouts, and that asks for a compatible Edge, a heart-rate monitor or watch and a power meter to get the most from it.

  • Your distance? Garmin Coach covers up to the half marathon.
  • Other sports? Garmin has running and cycling plans, not strength, swimming or HYROX.
  • Want to use only your phone? There are plans that do not need a watch.
